Fredrickson worked with stakeholders at the Metropolitan Council to design, develop, and implement a new website to replace the Council’s previous site, which was not well-organized and therefore difficult to use. We began by obtaining representative end-user feedback via discussion and card sort sessions, and used that information to develop a revised information structure centered on major topic categories. We developed hub pages for the major topic areas as a way of flattening the site hierarchy and speeding access to the wide array of information the site offers.
Our design was developed in collaboration with the Council’s web team and management so that it reflects the character of their organization. We created page templates so that content managers could easily revise and update information, and we worked closely with the Council web team to develop the site, which includes more than 800 pages.
